St James

This small church sits quietly in the middle of our village. Dating from 1190 it has been slightly altered over the years with the addition of some windows, a porch and a gallery, but essentially remains the simple building it has always been. It seats about 45 people in the nave and another 20 in the gallery, which is reached by some stone steps up the outside of the North wall. The church has been much loved and cared for during it’s long life. There are microphones, a hearing loop and a ramp for wheelchair access. It has a large cemetery in current use, which is under the care of the benefice.

We are fortunate to be part of a benefice offering a wide range of service styles between the 3 churches including the popular Cafe Church service. At St. James’s we have a service every Sunday. Evensong followed by a shortened Holy Communion for those who wish to stay on the 1st and 3rd Sunday, Matins on the 2nd Sunday and Holy Communion every 4th Sunday. All these services are from the Book of Common Prayer. During the year there are additional services including Compline during Lent and a candlelit Carol service on Christmas Eve when The villagers fill St. James’s and carols ring out across the dark fields.

The church is a popular choice for weddings, particularly for the smaller gathering of family and friends.

St. James’s Church is very small in stature but huge in heart and friendship. We are a small friendly congregation from East Lambrook and the surrounding villages and love to have the opportunity to welcome newcomers and visitors to the area, and several have called in to join a service while walking their dog and yes dogs also are welcome!
