St Michael's

Seavington is a village about just over a mile from South Petherton.  It is actually two villages, Seavington St Michael and Seavington St Mary which adjoin each other.

The church of St Michael’s Seavington is part of the United benefice of St Peter and St Paul South Petherton. It is a typical small English village church with a small but lively congregation. There are regular Sunday services held both in the church and in the local Cafe.

The church is early 14th Century Somerset Perpendicular, and the first incumbent is recorded as being appointed in 1297. The inside was updated in Victorian times, with the original pews replaced by pine. It has never had an organ but does have a minstrels’ gallery.

A second church in Seavington—St Mary’s— is in the care of the Wessex Branch of the Churches Conservation Trust.  Services are held there on special occasions each year.
